I slept like a baby Saturday night and woke up the next morning ready to go!
Look at that awesome breakfast that I got for FREE (well, included in the price for my room). They even made the hot dog look fancy 😉
Together with a girl from Taiwan we headed out to Khlong Lat Mayom, a floating market that I had read about online. The first indication that you picked the right place to go, is that no one knows where you are talking about. After asking multiple cab drivers we finally found someone that would drive us there for a reasonable price.
Man, was this market authentic! There wasn’t so much “floating” going on, but this market is clearly where the locals do their weekend shopping. I think I might have seen 10 tourists the entire time we were wandering.
Here are some of my favorite shots:
Some suggestions for when YOU visit:
- Either bring a map or a name of the market in Thai (ตลาดน้ำคลองลัดมะยม) with you to find a cab. The ride from Khao San road cost us $200 baht going and $120 baht coming back (getting a cab coming back isn’t as easy, you will need to stand in the road and flag one down).
- Go early! Once the market gets crowded it is very hard to move around.
- Be respectful and ask permission when taking photos of the food/items.
- Try new things! The options are endless!
What is your favorite international market that you have ever been too? I am always looking for new authentic markets to visit 🙂
